![]() ![]() As scientists told TASS, genetic research may be needed to do this. I have also been looking into Samoyed's, however I'm also thinking that I should probably wait until I'm a bit older before doing anything like this haha.Yakutia is planning to restore Yakutian Laika, an ancient hunting dog breed. Husky's seemed a bit too cliche for my taste, though I do still think they are wonderful companions and they have more than proven themselves as sled dogs. I have been wanting to get into sledding so I have been looking into sled dogs. I think I should also mention this, but I am not looking for a new dog based purely off looks. However, I am interested in what other spitz type dogs you would recommend! So keeping their interest and watching over them while in the company of smaller animals would probably be the biggest issue in this sense. Hunting came as their secondary purpose however, and they have a similar prey drive to Siberian Husky's. Their primary duty was to pull sleds, and it did so along with other dogs so they should be accepting of them. They do have a high prey drive but I'm not sure comparing it to other Laika's bred specifically for hunting would be fair seeing as these were multipurpose dogs being used in sledding, herding, and hunting. The Yakutian Laika is closely related to the East Siberian Laika and the Siberian Husky. ![]() Hey Flora, thanks for the response! I think you might be referring to the Russo-European Laika and the West and East Siberian Laika's. Then you see how the yakutian Laila was intended to work and be like. I recommend watching happy people from the taiga in russia. ![]() Rather intelligence, cooperation, and kindness to people. If running in a sled, working with people during hunting. But all in all i think think they are sweet and family loving dogs. They have pray drive, and recall training is a never ending process. Our puppy is easy going with all people, and we haven't done IMMENSE amount of work, and from my impression of the breeders didn't either. He for sure has energy but with about one hour of exercise each day he is happy to sleep through the rest of the day and night. When meeting with the breeders (poland) they had several Yakutian Laikas, all of them chill, and polite. When meeting other aggressive dogs he just jumps away and looks at them. He has not shown a single sign of aggression so far. I know Animal Watch made a video on these gorgeous animals, however I was curious to see if the situation was different in the States. All I have been able to find really is breed information like what is on the AKC site and other sites similar to it. So assuming there aren't any in the states, I'd have to start the pain in the ass process of having one imported and I'd prefer to have all information and owner experiences possible before deciding whether or not this dog is right for me and having to try and import. Any owners here who could provide me with their experiences? I also want to know if there are even any breeders in the U.S. I want to know if anyone here has heard of this breed? I am trying to find out as much information as possible about them as I am considering getting one in the near future. I should get into why I created this post. I am also not new to dogs, but that's enough about me. As the title suggests, I am new to Reddit. ![]()
